“HEARING AND LISTENING”
As the Bible says in Matthew 13:13, “Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.”
How often have we found ourselves in situations where we are speaking to someone, yet they seem to be tuning us out? We have all experienced the frustration of saying, “Are you even listening to me?” or “You’re not listening!” This feeling of being unheard can be a powerful motivator to truly listen to others and to God.
The truth is that hearing and listening are not the same thing. Hearing is a passive action – it’s merely receiving sound waves. However, listening is an active action requiring focus, attention, and effort. Listening consumes energy and leads to understanding.
In our relationship with God, hearing His Word is not enough. We must also listen – actively seeking to understand and apply His truth to our lives. When we truly listen, we begin to comprehend His plans and purposes, and this active listening is crucial for our spiritual growth.
Make a conscious effort to actively listen to God’s voice and to those around us. By doing so, we’ll gain deeper understanding, build stronger relationships, and experience the transformative power of God’s Word in our lives.
