*THE LAMB AND THE GOAT
*(John 10: 14-16)

Why is Jesus called the Lamb of God, and why does He call us His sheep? What distinguishes a sheep from a goat? With their adventurous spirit and autonomy, goats showcase the diversity of God’s creations. Their intelligence and curiosity inspire us with the richness of God’s world.

In contrast, Jesus exemplifies absolute obedience, like a lamb or baby sheep, doing only what He sees His Father do. He says, “I know my sheep, and my sheep know me… They hear my voice and answer when I call” (John 10:14-16). Sheep respond to their shepherd’s voice, unlike goats.

No wonder Jesus, the shepherd, would leave the 99 to search for the lost one, confident that the 99 will remain. This raises the question: Are you a goat (ewu) or a sheep (aturu)?

Note: “Ewu” and “aturu” are Igbo words for goat and sheep, respectively.
