THE POWER OF SPOKEN WORDS (Matthew 12:33-37)
Jesus taught us that a tree is known by its fruits. He emphasized that the words we speak reveal the condition and state of our heart. “You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 12:34-35)
In essence, our words reflect our thoughts and intentions. As the scripture says, “What a man thinks in his heart/mind, the mouth speaks.” The good person brings forth good words from their treasure of goodness, while the evil person brings forth evil words from their treasure of wickedness.
The significance of our words is underscored by Jesus’ warning that we will be held accountable for every careless word we speak on the day of judgment. “For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:37)
Therefore, let us rule over negative thoughts and harness the power of our words. Make your words your magic wand, choosing to speak life, hope, and encouragement to yourself and others.
