“THERE IS NO OTHER COMMANDMENT GREATER THAN THESE” (Mark 12:28-31)
Jesus was asked by a teacher of the law, “Which is the greatest commandment?” Jesus replied, quoting Deuteronomy 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18:
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these.”
This verse emphasizes the importance of loving God and loving others.
Loving God
- With all your heart: Emotionally and passionately, with every fiber of your being.
- With all your soul: Spiritually and deeply, connecting with God’s Spirit.
- With all your mind: Intellectually and intentionally, seeking to understand and apply God’s Word.
- With all your strength: Physically and energetically, using your talents and abilities to serve God.
Loving Your Neighbour
- As yourself: Unconditionally and selflessly, treating others with the same love and respect you desire for yourself. (Do you love yourself?)
- Regardless of background or circumstances: Loving others despite their differences, weaknesses, or mistakes.
By following these two commandments, we demonstrate our love for God and our commitment to living a life that honours Him.
