HUNGER FOR MORE
- “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” – Matthew 5:6 (NKJV)
Every great move of God in a person’s life begins with a holy hunger. A deep inner longing for something more than what this world can offer. Spiritual growth doesn’t happen by accident; it is birthed in the heart that cries out, “Lord, I want more of You!”
Jesus said, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” But what exactly does “righteousness” mean? For many, it sounds lofty or even overbearing, as if it refers only to a life of flawless holiness. Yet the essence of righteousness is simpler and more approachable. It is the humble, daily attempt to do things the right way—God’s way.
Righteousness is not about striving in our strength to be perfect. It is about aligning our hearts with God’s will and allowing His Spirit to guide our actions, words, and thoughts. It is choosing His way above our own, even in the little things of life.
But how often do we allow our spiritual hunger to be dulled by distractions, comfort, entertainment, even good things that take the place of the best thing? Just as our bodies weaken without food, so our spirits weaken without God’s presence.
To awaken the spirit within, we must cultivate an appetite for His Word, His presence, and His will. Hunger for God leads to intimacy. It leads to transformation. And as you draw near to Him, He promises to draw near to you (James 4:8).
